“The first week of August, 1928 I found myself in Midland, Texas, at the home of John and Jan Leary (the house that used to be right next to St. Ann’s Church rectory). That is when it happened. That is when I was baptized in the Holy Spirit. I did not “feel” anything at the time, but the next day, everything seemed brighter and fresh outside—and in my heart. The baptism in the Holy Spirit confirmed my choice to become a priest because of the sense that God is within me—with him I can do whatever he calls me to do. Since then, I have continued to grow in knowledge; I still am growing in the fruit of the Spirit—especially love, joy, and patience.” |
